Donna Barr (born 1952) is recognized as one of the classic authors of the 1980's black-and-whites comic books.
One of her series is the epic The Desert Peach, following the adventures of Pfirsich Rommel, the fictional homosexual younger brother of Erwin "The Desert Fox" Rommel. Beginning in 1987, the book was set in North Africa during World War Two. While allowing a fictional character into a real historical family, the story remains true to the personality of the famous Field Marshal.
Another series is Stinz, about a society of centaurs in a setting reminiscent of pre-industrial Germany. Stinz is a family man, mayor of his home town, and a war veteran, known as the legendary Black Major.
Scroll down to catch all of Donna's available books, including the fantasy quest featuring a harpy and a magicked rabbit, Hader and The Colonel; the allegory on slavery and horses, Bosom Enemies; and a sharp-witted and frankly fearless commentary on gender roles, The Barr Girls.

AFTERDEAD 2, Ashes to Ashes, full color, over 25o acid-free pages. $38.95 at Amazon. NOTE: after proofing and printing, a typo appeared -- two extra pages repeated in the wrong place! (Isn't it always the case?) They don't knock out any of the original pages, and they will be corrected, but in the meantime, the author (me) has a few hard copies of AFTERDEAD 2. I won't have 'em long because I offer to do a nice sketch of any of the characters and include it with the book -- or do a sketch inside the front or back cover, or both! Anyway, I'm going to go fix these (you know I'm fast) so get 'em while you can.
Special offer: BOTH AFTERDEAD 1 and AFTERDEAD 2 collection set for $39.95 -- less than half buying one at a time!
Grab this special double set and the two-volume Desert Peach collections One and Two, from Lulu, and you'll have the entire Desert Peach series in your hot little hands!

The Desert Peach Books:
Donna Barr's war-time comedy drama sees the gay brother of Rommel lead a band of misfits in the Africa Korps. "Desert Peach" has a stride that has escaped all other war comics. Blending humor and drama without sacrificing either, "Desert Peach" eschews easy answers or code morality, to portray a story of duty and honor, Very poignant without being schmaltzy. And stop-the-reader-in-the-street hilarious.

Desert Peach Musical: Because of the recent upgrades in my computers, the wma files for the musical can no longer be transferred to a CD. These are not recordings for professional sale; if you want the AIFF and WMA files for sharing with possible producers, and other interested parties, contact me.
Here's the recent work done on the files, reflected in a message from Mr. Dave Baxter, who did all the work (bless his little hard-working or slightly obsessed soul):
"After a lot of reading, something finally struck me about all the online posts on "Protected WMA files" (what the DP Musical files are) couldn't be converted without special software (which costs, which was no good). But I noted (eventually) that again and again people commented on how iTunes would naturally translate WMAs to mp3s if taken directly off a CD. So after so much time spent trying to convert the little bastards, I discovered I could just burn them onto a CD, and then iTunes (thank god!) successfully switched 'em all over to mp3s (which are unprotected and can play pretty much anywhere on anything) and so that's that. Just tell everyone who orders the CDs from now on to burn the tracks you send them onto a CD (or two - I had to use two) and then the files are good to be used for any purpose after that. I think any burner will do, though if anyone has issues I used "Roxio Creator" (usually free with any PC - for Macs you'll have to get creative, I'm Mac stupid-as-sin)."

Bosom Enemies
A German officer captures an American sergeant during WW II. Their confusion and squabbling is cut short when people show up who don't even recognize their differences. To them, the two men are just two available -- and saleable -- pieces of horseflesh. Stewart, the American, who was taken away from home as a young man, and thrust into a brutal war, can't help but prefer the comparative quiet of his new life. Stephan, the German, was older when the war ripped him away from his wife and kids -- and he wants to go home! When Stewart and Stephan aren't fighting with their masters, they're at each other's throats
