Donna Barr (born 1952) is recognized as one of the classic authors of the 1980's black-and-whites comic books.
One of her series is the epic The Desert Peach, following the adventures of Pfirsich Rommel, the fictional homosexual younger brother of Erwin "The Desert Fox" Rommel. Beginning in 1987, the book was set in North Africa during World War Two. While allowing a fictional character into a real historical family, the story remains true to the personality of the famous Field Marshal.
Another series is Stinz, about a society of centaurs in a setting reminiscent of pre-industrial Germany. Stinz is a family man, mayor of his home town, and a war veteran, known as the legendary Black Major.

The Everything Box contains a copy of all off-set back-stock books AND enough extras to not only give pressies for friends AND hold a Nerd Party (which is like a Tupperware party, but cooler). The REASON it's so cheap is because I throw whatever I've got into it. There is NO guarantee of what you'll get -- just that you'll get an excellent deal. And sometimes surprises! (Sorry, no elephant-foot lamps. At least not yet). It's an excellent deal for overseas readers, and for retailers. It's shipped USPS flat-rate priority, giving it a better shot at getting through customs with less trouble, and keeping the costs down no matter where you are on the globe (no Saturn shipments; we're working on that).
(Note: The E-NerdBox may now contain the new Print-On-Demand books! POD books will be ding'd copies; but if you don't care if the covers are a bit scuffed or dog-eared, you can get a POD book cheap -- if I have any. If I find any of the VERY RARE goof-up proof copies, I'll throw one in; Collectors' Gold!).

Meet the Peach for the first time, and his disorderly orderly, Udo, as well as Doberman, the man with the pet land mine. There's also the new Desert Peach #1 Indyplanet.
Desert Peach #2, $2.00: The Bar Fight
A bar in North Africa -- and a Cossack with the anti-soviet forces makes the bad mistake of hitting the Peach's orderly. And the new Desert Peach #2 at Indyplanet.
The Desert Peach #3, $3.99: A Day At The Beach
Surfing, a submarine, and original Afrika Korps bathing costume -- nothing and their hats. Don't buy if you don't like naked guys who really look like this.
The Desert Peach #4, $3.99: Is There A Nazi In The House? You can never find a real National Socialist when you need one -- especially in the Peach's 469th Halftrack, Support and Gravedigging Battalion.
The Desert Peach #5, $3.99: Flight Of Fancy It's up in the air with the Peach's reluctant pilot and a stowaway machine-gun. The introduction to the series of the Peach's mad bad hot-bodied (and knows it) lover and lifelong companion, Rosen Kavalier (his name until we find out the real one).
The Desert Peach #6, $3.99: A Day Like Any Other It really is, as a new doctor assigned to the 469th discovers on a walk through the Peach's battalion on a lonely escarpment in North Africa. A run of horrible jokes tells us how to find out who's in the other trenches.
The Desert Peach #7, $3.99: Spoiled Fruit The author calls this the Hallowe'en issue, because of the cover colors -- and the horror of seeing the Peach's temper unleashed under accidental chemical influences.
The Desert Peach #8, $3.99: Dressing Down Cross-dressing and spies -- could it get any better? The Peach and Udo put on slips and heels against their will just to make Rommel happy.
The Desert Peach #9, $3.99: Scourge of Love Udo steals camels to prove his love for a Taureg/Berber princess. It's that or insult her proud tribal father. No good can come of this (after this, just add this phrase to the end of all the book descriptions).
The Desert Peach #10, $3.99: Two-Timers The Peach will do anything to protect his brother's life -- even dressing as the enemy and going behind the lines. Meanwhile, the Human Swastika, who is supposed to help keep peace in the camp, manages to piss off the cook; now is that a good idea?
The Desert Peach #11, $3.99: Straight and Narrow The naughtiest issue, which is a good thing or a bad thing, depending on whether or not you like hot nude people. The Peach's men really do have good intentions -- which of course go straight to hell. Straight people can be so stupid.
The Desert Peach #12, $3.99: Child of the World ("Menschenkind") The Peach is still furiously angry with everybody -- until the results of their sins lands in his arms. Watch him melt like so much sugar in the hot sun.
The Desert Peach #13, $3.99: Nobody The most horrible of the issues. The death camps are bad enough, without seeing them through Doberman's drugged and damaged vision. And why would anyone believe him, when they know his loose link to reality? You don't believe everything anybody tells you about what goes on in camps, do you?
The Desert Peach #14, $3.99: Surprise, Surprise Hint, hint, hint, for literal years, and the readers still didn't get it before the trap was sprung. Oh, okay, one of you did, but we all know about you.
The Desert Peach #15, $3.99: The Triangle Trade Rosen is ready to kill for jealousy when the Peach's old-fashioned values crash into modern capitalism after he goes out of his way to insult a bad commander.
The Desert Peach #16, $3.99: Flight Of The Phoenix Finder's keepers -- even the Peach can't resist, especially when it's a beautiful purebred Arab mare. Now who are all these desert people, showing up with royal stallions to breed with her?
The Desert Peach #17, $3.99: Culture Shock Udo's long-awaited wedding to his desert princess -- and a stag party in the local high-class brothel. The human swastika is furious about miscegenation, Udo nearly gets outed, and Rommel learns to jitter-bug. All this -- and beautiful full-color paper dolls by Barb Rausch!
The Desert Peach #18, $3.99: The Desert Peach Play Program Book Photos of the actors, the actual program, and lots of art by a collection of amazing artists, as well as a sneak peak backstage of the Desert peach series. Who is that putting peanuts in his RC Cola?
The Desert Peach #19, $4.50: Self-Propelled Target The page counts begins to go up. The Peach turns his back on his boys for just one day and gets it in the face. An old Afrika Korps veteran, upon seeing this issue, shook his head and sighed, "Some days it was just like that...."
The Desert Peach #20, $4.50: Fever Dreams Come with us back to romantic Paris when the Peach first met -- and was conquered -- by the irresistible and irrepressible Rosen Kavalier. But it wasn't all one-sided; Rosen wouldn't even let a man sit on his bunk until he saw this one handsome and modest officer on a Parisian street. You are what -- and who -- you love.
The Desert Peach #21, $3.99: The Good Uncle "Der gute Onkel" is an idiomatic phrase, meaning... well, you'll see. If you thought the Peach lost it in issue 7 because Doberman's pills got into his tea, watch what happens when he finds out who is serving in his battalion. He really is not very tolerant at all for this sort of thing.
The Desert Peach #22, $3.99: Lady Luck What happens when a woman is assigned to a military unit? These days the girls carry guns -- back in the 1940's all they had on their side was watching their back and hoping their commander would stand up for them. The Peach finds out what it really is to be The Old Man among a lot of over-heated youngsters.
Desert Peach #23, $2.95: Visions After the excitement of the day before -- issue 22 to you -- the Peach puts his men to work building a bridge. Brother Rommel comes to see it and praises its utility -- uh-oh.... And if you'd like the new version, with some additional art, check out the Desert Peach #23 at Indyplanet.
Desert Peach #24, $2.95: Ups and Downs The closest thing I've ever done to "to be continued." The beautiful bridge is right where Rommel and the 8th army want it -- and they're racing to get there first -- right in the middle of the Peach's carefully-organized little oasis of peace. What to do, what to do? There's also the new Desert Peach #24 at Indyplanet. t the day before. Nothing
good can come of this.
The Desert Peach #25, $3.99: Beautiful In 1917, Rommel really did serve in Transylvania. The Peach accompanies him and gets lost in the woods in so many ways. Myth and moonlight made for an issue that sold out within a month. The reprint is just as beautiful.
Desert Peach #26, $4.95: Miki 1944. The Peach's orderly, now a sergeant, and the 469th's Human Swastika -- now Udo's Captain -- squabble their filthy, defeated way across a dying Europe. In tow, a refugee who despairs that Hauptmann Winzig is her very best bet for surviving the final days of the war. The Peach is only represented by the few good decisions these men now make.
Desert Peach #27, $5.95: New and Different Where did the Peach get his lovely scarf and ear-ring? And whose idea was that ribbon on his riding crop in the first place?
ALL the following backstock versions of The Desert Peach have brand new editions with new additional art at Indyplanet.
Desert Peach #28, $6.00: Tongue After the war, the Peach, Rosen, and the kid who saved Pfirsich's mind after the final days, live in peace and plenty. It doesn't keep them from reminiscing about the Bad Old Days.
Desert Peach #29, $6.00: Out Of The East ("The Path Of The Friend")
For 30 years, the Peach's son has been searching for Udo, who went missing during Operation Keelhaul. Rosen really wishes grand-boy hadn't succeeded.
Desert Peach #30, $6.00: Headaches Back in the Afrika Korps days, Rommel finds out his brother has been putting on an act. And he's not really happy about his bro's rather sordid fellow performers.
The Desert Peach Prose Novel: $21.95 Bread and Swans The story of the Peach's life, from about 1910 to his last goodbye to live in 1900. Episodes with Rommel, Hitler, Goebbels and the post-war antique market all based on the real Stupid Adult Tricks of War. Now also available at basic prices at my Lulu Page: $14.40. NOW ON KINDLE.

And now the Stinz books!
But if you're looking for the classic backstock, here it is:
Stinz III-2, $2.50: Old Man Out The "Old Man" is the last shock of wheat cut in the harvest, and whoever cuts it gets suitably abused. Stinz has never been the "Old Man" in his life -- but this year he may have a good reason for letting the farm kids beat his tail crooked.
Stinz III-3, $2.50: The Bobwar Kids don't tell adults much about things that scare them or hurt them. As a colt, Stinz kept a dangerous secret to himself -- and it's grown into a monster.
Stinz III-4, $2.50: Bum Steer With his "nephew" and a two-legger feuding over grazing rights, Stinz has other things to think about than old war memories. Like he'll really have a choice about that before it's over.
Stinz III-6, $5.50: A Marvelous Resistance Stinz has kept a secret all those years since the war, but Sergeant Gift is about to get the whole story of those final days.
Stinz III-7, $4.95: A Dog's Life Nobody really know what the end-of-war changes were really about -- but Stinz and Sergeant Gift are about to get a graphic demonstration.
Stinz III-8, $6.00: Playthings Bullets and machine-pistols have never been playthings, but they're even more dangerous in Stinz's world than they are in ours. Stinz's nasty grandson -- he can't stand that kid -- doesn't make things any better.
Stinz Re-printed as New Soul and New Flesh The Black Major leaves home to get a breath of fresh air -- and it's like going to the Hotel California. He can check in but he can't check out. Before it's all over he'll have funny teeth and very Bad Hair. The original New Souls, which included a flip book with Bosom Enemies, have been reprinted at Indyplanet.com
Stinz Tribals $7.95: Stinz's future son-in-law goes out to see if he can find his new dad. All the loose ends in the Stinz saga are tied up and resolved in preparation for the leap to the Afterdead series.
Special Stinz Collections:
Stinz, Charger: The War Stories $20.00:
All the stories of Stinz's short but intense career in the army, including the day he was drafted, his basic training and his first battle. These stories are from several issues from each Stinz series, and include extra short stories. The author only spent three years in the US Army stateside, but there was enough service goofiness and combat people willing to talk about what happened to them to add to an awfully hilarious and slightly toxic mix. Give this book to somebody considering joining up: you might save their lives and their families a lot of unnecessary grief.
An Insupportable Light -- The Original Stinz Novel. 28 illustrations, 406 pages. Two sides of a postwar society slip into their own local war. Nobody wants the war and both sides have their own good reasons for defending their positions. Nothing good can come of this. It's got talking horses and beautiful black and white line drawings -- can it get any better?
The Lulu Version $17.65. Just revised, with a prettier cover, at the reduced Lulu price.
The Amazon Version $37.95 Keep an eye on this one; the prices for books at Amazon should be going down soon!
Bosom Enemies
This series has been called a metaphor for slavery. A German officer captures an American sergeant during WW II. Their confusion and squabbling is cut short when people show up who don't even recognize their differences. To them, the two men are just two available -- and saleable -- pieces of horseflesh. Stewart, the American, who was taken away from home as a young man, and thrust into a brutal war, can't help but prefer the comparative quiet of his new life. Stephan, the German, was older when the war ripped him away from his wife and kids -- and he wants to go home! When Stewart and Stephan aren't fighting with their masters, they're at each other's throats.
And now the Stinz books!
My readers know, with its colorful publishing history, that Stinz has a confusing numbering system. It's completely re-numbered, with additional art at INDYPLANET.

When Stewart and Stephan aren't fighting with their masters, they're at each other's throats.
Bosom Enemies #1, $6.00: Losing Our Bearings Stephen and Stewart are captured and must come to terms with being beasts.
Bosom Enemies #2, $6.00: Bearing Our Losses The pair are torn apart during their society's conquest of a native people. Horses don't get treated very well in war.
Bosom Enemies #3, $12.95: Backstock sold out, but new editions available again at Indyplanet. After ending up in the herds of the native people they'd been sent to conquer, the boys get to enjoy a sweat-lodge. A tale of their old age transforms into a trip into 1970's San Francisco.
Bosom Enemies #4, $9.95: Bridgework Backstock sold out, but new editions available again at Indyplanet. The boys are both human again, in 1970's San Francisco, but the same age they were when they left in 1944 -- and they're unable to take off their filthy uniforms. Of course they get smart-mouthed with each other and are arrested for disturbing the peace. They 're bailed out of jail by Stephen's granddaughter, and end up on the dock eating cotton candy (that horse sugar thing). Stephen really shouldn't try to skate-board with hob-nailed boots. It takes some Mexican Agriculture to get them back into the time-line (Not a lot of these left!).
Ringcat: $9.19 Alternate history SS murder mystery. Illustrated book with some damn' fine bondage moments.
Permanent Party: $12.47 Fictionalized military memoir of Donna's time in the US Army, 1970-1973 . She had to wait to write it because most of this actually happened; those of you reading the Overseas Weekly in the early '70's might remember this scandal that hit the Fort Lewis WAC barracks -- in the bay right next to Donna's (there's a reason it's fictionalized). But you'll have to keep reading if you want to discover the racial, sexual and military repercussions of the incident. A hippie-dippy view of stateside service, with more alcohol than any eighteen-year-old girl hould know about. Donna was a stupid kid (well, that's a redundancy) when she joined up with two friends and it SHOWS. (Some readers have called this book bleak; you'll see what a short time in the military can do to somebody's head when Donna tells you she thinks it's funny). Another book that may send somebody running the next time they see a recruiter.
Now also at the Lulu bookstore for $12.12; Lulu always passes on savings to the author and the customer.
The Totally Socially Unacceptable Alphabet: $1.75
"A is for arsenic - it cures the sick." Just plain nasty and a total hoot. The only book Dan's husband ever wrote -- with Donna's grimly amusing drawings.
